Short Example of using snappyHexMesh meshing tool

Some time ago one of our clients asked us:
"How would you simulate some really complex geometry?"
"What about the Eiffel Tower?"
As we are used to face new problems we decided to accept this challenge...




The input: surface model of Eiffel tower

The Eiffel tower construction is very complex. This iron lattice monster is very high (324m) and also very fine in its structure. Such a combination of hight and structure is really a nightmare for all CFD engineers.

The meshing tool: OpenFOAM® snappyHexMesh

The requirements on the CFD mesh are enormous. The only reasonable solution is using some automated tool. OpenFOAM®'s snappyHexMesh finnally demonstrated to be a perfect tool to create CFD computational mesh any of complex geometries.

Surface model in the box

Using snappyHexMesh the object of the scope is put into the box. snappyHexMesh creates a computational mesh inside that box around the object.
